AUSTRALIA PR: A Rather Simplified Peephole

If you have chosen to open this blog, it means Australia has already caught your eye. You would be vaguely surprised to know that you are not the only one who has taken an interest in permanent residency in Australia.

Well, allow me to make you familiar with what a Australia PR actually is and what it means in Australia.

What is a Permanent Residency?

In simple words, a permanent residency would be a legal status that gives you more rights than a work visa and less than citizenship. A permanent residency allows foreign nationals to live and work in Australia for the long term with fewer restrictions whilst still bearing more freedom and benefits than any work permit. A PR allows you to stay and work in the country for an indefinite amount of time, but it is still not considered citizenship and does not require renewal every now and then.

Now that we have understood what a permanent residency is, let us understand what it means to have a PR status in Australia.

Australia PR

Permanent residency in Australia is similar to PR in other countries. Let’s decode the specifics.

THE BIG THREE

There are multiple subclasses to choose from for your application. Specifically for you, I have listed the big three visa subclasses; however, for a detailed explanation, please refer to one of our articles from the official Visa for Nation website.

1. Subclass 189

Also known as the Skilled Independent Visa, it is a direct and unconditional type of visa. It requires no external nomination or sponsorship. Though for such a definition, it has earned its reputation as highly competitive as well. As no additional points are given, it purely depends on your qualifications.

2. Subclass 190

Also known as the Skilled Nominated Visa, it is a state-nominated visa that is directly related to PR. You will be nominated by a specific Australian state or territory that requires your skills in their region. You also get a 5-point additional bonus through this subclass. You must remain in your assigned territory or region for at least your first two years.

3. Subclass 491

Also known as the Skilled Work Regional Visa, it is a temporary visa that is valid for 5 years and leads to permanent residency after your 3-5 year stay and dedicated work in Australia. You are allowed to work in your designated regional areas only; keep that in mind. It gives you the immense benefit of obtaining a 15-point bonus on your profile.

The Process: As simple as it could get.

  1. Check your eligibility
  2. Get your Skills Assessment
  3. Take an approved language exam
  4. Submit an EOI (Expression of Interest)
  5. Wait for your Invitation to Apply: Patience is a virtue
  6. Invitation received? Well done, now you have a 60-day deadline. Be careful not to miss that and proceed by lodging your formal application.

AUTHOR’S NOTE

I will be more than entertained to know if one of these subclasses fits your profile, and if they do- CONGRATULATIONS. If they do not? There are other subclasses waiting for you; give them a chance. That is all for now. As mentioned earlier as well, a detailed explanation can be found on our website if you were planning on making a deeper dive.
